August 18th: West Nile virus (WNV) in San Pedro

This is notification that the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD) has confirmed the first mosquito sample to test positive for West Nile virus (WNV) in San Pedro this year. This WNV-positive sample was detected in mosquito traps in your community on August 18th. District staff will place notices in public spaces within a half-mile radius around trap locations to advise residents to take precautions when mosquitoes are present.

West Nile Virus (WNV) - Mosquitoes acquire WNV from infected birds.  WNV spreads to humans, houses, and birds through the bite of an ifected mosquito, and it can make people sick or even cause deth.
